Kerry Butler recently starred as "Sherrie" in Broadway's Tony Award Nominated show Rock of Ages. She will return to Broadway during the 2010-2011 season, reuniting with Hairspray creative team Marc Shaiman, Scott Whitman and Jack O'Brien in the premiere of "Catch me if You Can".
Kerry received rave reviews, acclaim and a Tony Nomination for her role as the lead of "Clio/Kira" in the hit Broadway musical Xanadu. This runaway hit has been acclaimed by both fans and critics who have all touted her performance as sensational.
Charles Isherwood from the New York Times said "Kerry Butler, as the Greek demi-goddess Clio, who also roams Venice Beach as the Australian mortal Kira, is simply heaven on eight little polyurethane wheels."
Publications such as Vanity Fair, Variety, Newsday, New York Daily News, NY Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Time Out NY, Newark Star Ledger, Associated Press, New York 1 and others, have all singled out her performance for being fresh, exciting and a "flowing vision on rollerskates."
Most recent TV shows include: 30 Rock, Cupid and Lipstick Jungle which starred Brooke Shields and Lindsay Price. Kerry portrayed Lindsay's backstabbing assistant, "Reese".
Among her film and television credits are: Borough of Kings, Campfire Stories, One Life to Live¸ Second Honeymoon starring Roma Downey, Sesame Street, Hometown, Another World, Twins (Pilot), as well as several live performances on national television shows.
Growing up in Brooklyn, Kerry grew up around the theater and performing arts. She became a Broadway darling known for her amazing stage talents as a singer and actress. She made her Broadway Debut as Belle in Beauty in the Beast, a role she originated with the Toronto Production. As Belle, she was nominated for a DORA award, which is given out by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) for "Outstanding Performance in a Principal Role." She followed that with Blood Brothers, Les Miserables and Little Shop of Horrors, in which she was nominated for an Outer Critics Award. Most notably she received rave reviews starring as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray which garnered her with the prestigious Clarence Derwent Award given to one male and one female performer a year for excellence in the theater. She also received Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle award nominations for that role.
Kerry has worked Off Broadway and regionally in Bat Boy: The Musical, The Opposite of Sex at the Williamstown Theater Festival, Miracle Brothers at the Vineyard Theater, The "I" Word at the Ensemble Studio Theater, The Folsom Head at the Currican Theater, Prodigal at the York Theater and numerous readings and workshops of new musicals.
Kerry's recordings include: Xanadu, Hairspray, Little Shop of Horrors, Bat Boy: The Musical, Prodigal, numerous demo cds and her solo album, "Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust", now being performed in concert.
"Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust", the concert, directed by Tony Award Winner Scott Whitman, is a fun lively evening featuring a send-up of Kerry's life as a Broadway star! The show features such songs as "Magic" (Xanadu), "Delta Dawn", "Color Of the Wind", "One Monkey Don't Stop a Show", "Somewhere That's Green" (Little Shop of Horrors) and "When You Wish Upon A Star."
