From Alice to Gypsy to Tales of The Allergist’s Wife to Paul Rudnick’s The New Century this past season, Linda Lavin is a multiple Award Winning actress. She has had a distinguished theater career, earning the Tony, Helen Hayes, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Awards as Best Actress for her starring role in Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound.
Linda received Tony Nominations for such diverse roles as Marjorie Taub in Tales of The Allergist’s Wife by Charles Busch and Mrs. Van Daan in the 1997 revival of The Diary Of Anne Frank as well as Neil Simon’s Last of The Red Hot Lovers. Her theater career has been varied: from the musicals The Mad Show and It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane…It’s Superman to her stirring portrayal of Mama Rose in the 1990 revival of Gypsy.
In comedy and dramatic Broadway roles, Linda has starred as Dr. Gorgeous Teitelbaum in Wendy Wasserstein's The Sisters Rosensweig, and starred in the 2003 Broadway production of Carol Burnett and Carrie Hamilton’s Hollywood Arms directed by Harold Prince. Additional theater nominations and awards include starring roles in the Off-Broadway production of Collected Stories and the Elaine May/ David Mamet/ Woody Allen off Broadway hit Death Defying Acts, winning the Best Actress Obie and Lucille Lortel awards. In 2010, Linda reprises her starring role in Collected Stories for Broadway audiences as part of the 2010 Manhattan Theater Club season.
Television audiences remember Linda from her starring roles on Barney Miller, Law and Order and as Alice. During its nine seasons, Linda won two Golden Globe Awards as the title character. She has also starred in, produced and directed many award winning TV movies. Linda is featured in the 2010 Jennifer Lopez film, The Back-up Plan.
In 2010, Linda follows up her acclaimed “Confessions of a One Time Waitress” show with “Moments Like This” featuring Billy Stritch and her trio. The evening includes such classics as “I Love Being Here With You”, “Two for The Road”, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and the theme from “Alice”. Funny, warm and full of personality, this is a light-hearted romp through Linda’s award winning and fabulous career.
